Writing in the Evening Standard on Monday 17th June, Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP argues that to end the war in Syria, western governments must provide military assistance to the Syrian opposition. While acknowledging the decision facing the British Government is a bad one, he argues that the alternative is even worse, and that ‘Assad will only bow to the need to resign, or at least share power, when he recognises that the opposition will never be defeated.’
